South Downs Cellars is an award-winning retailer and wholesaler based in Hurstpierpoint and Lindfield, West Sussex. Established in 2003 by Lucy Driver, the business now includes two shops, based in Hurstpierpoint and Lindfield, West Sussex, an online shop, plus a large wholesale division supplying in excess of 80 trade accounts across Sussex. Our main aim across all areas of the business is to provide outstanding customer service, and supply a broad range of exciting, individual drinks from around the world, with a strong focus on local products.
We are now recruiting for an Assistant Manager to join our small but perfectly formed retail team, to be based in our Lindfield store. This person will be self-motivated and enthusiastic while offering exceptional customer service, and will have the following skills:
- Retail experience, with at least 2 years’ experience working within the Drinks industry
- A passion for wine, beer and spirits is essential, ideally with WSET Level 2 or above
- Self-motivated, with the ability to thrive when working alone as well as as part of a team
- Natural Sales instinct and commercial awareness to help grow retail sales
- Strong organisational skills with keen attention to detail
- A professional image with friendly manner and sense of humour
- Excellent numeracy, communication and time management skills
- A flair for marketing, both in-store and via Social Media
Position Overview
- A full-time, permanent contract of 45 hours week spread across 5 days (Monday – Saturday), plus monthly evening tasting events, working alongside the Store Manager
- To be an ambassador for South Downs Cellars, delivering an outstanding shopping experience to every customer, creating a welcoming, relaxed atmosphere and to be on hand to respond to any questions
- To support the Management team in maximising sales opportunities, and being proactive in contacting customers with updates on products and tastings
- Involvement in day to day operational tasks including the monitoring of stock levels and organising deliveries, merchandising and ensuring the physical appearance of the shop is perfect at all times
- To work alongside the Management team to identify opportunities and make improvements to help drive sales and optimise the operational running of the shop.
- To work alongside the Management team, providing monthly in-store tastings and events to drive customer loyalty and engagement
- To promote the business as a whole via Social Media channels
