De Lacy Executive have been retained to recruit for a unique and exciting opportunity that seldom comes up.
Our client is a renowned and award-winning vineyard and winemaker and is based in spectacular scenery in the West England and Welsh Border area. Continued growth and expansion, will triple production over the next 5 years. The business now needs to strengthen its Management team with the creation of a new position of Winemaker.
The main focus of the role of Winemaker will be to work closely with, and report to, the General Manager & Head Winemaker for all aspects of Winery work, from grape receival through to final bottling and labelling. All wines produced are solely from Estate grown fruit and are fully certified Biodynamic & Organic. The successful applicant must have very good sensory analytical skills and a logical, practical attitude as well as being committed to engaging in all aspects of the Business.
This is truly an outstanding opportunity for someone with passion for wine production. For those at the beginning of their career, they will gain invaluable experience working across all aspects of wine production, with one of the best, emerging wine making operations in the UK.
Requirements;
- A degree in Oenology or Fermentation Science
- A passion and drive to produce fantastic wine
- Practical experience particularly in the production of Sparkling Wines in the traditional Champanoise Method
- Some knowledge of Biodynamic winemaking would be of benefit but this is not essential
- Having an open mind and being prepared to learn is of more importance
- A genuine interest in Biodynamics
- I genuine willingness to work in all areas of wine production
- A 'can do' attitude with a thirst for learning and ability to work autonomously is essential
- Forklift licence
You will be required to work on all aspects of wine production from vine care, harvesting, cleaning, pressing through to full winemaking operations.
Applicants must be hard-working and flexible as working hours and tasks are variable according to times of the year. The successful candidate will work in a very small, family-led team and whilst relevant experience is beneficial, personality, intelligence, enthusiasm, perseverance, self-motivation and attention to detail are of much greater importance.
