Highweald Wines Ltd are looking for a highly motivated Assistant Vineyard Manager to join the team at our Pookchurch and Mayfield Vineyard sites in Sussex.
Working with another Vineyard Manager and directly reporting to the Managing Director you will be involved in all aspects of the annual viticulture program.
The right candidate will have strong organisational, teambuilding and problem solving skills, have great attention to detail and the ability to prioritise multiple tasks.
This is a great opportunity to join Highweald Wines at an exciting time of expansion and growth in the Vineyards and in the English Sparkling Wine sector.
Duties will include:
• Managing the day to day running of vineyard sites and the vineyard staff for Highweald Wines
• All related vineyard work including, but not limited to; pruning, planting, canopy management, maintenance work, spraying vines with suitable and authorised chemical products, managing the spray plan and being responsible for it, mechanical work (e.g. mowing, rotavating, fertilising, bud rubbing, vine trimming etc).
• Work with the management team to produce a proactive plan for continued improvement in vineyard practices across sites.
• To be involved in planting and establishing new vineyard sites.
• Using vineyard and mechanical equipment safely and ensuring all staff are fully trained and are also using said equipment safely.
• Ensure safe working conditions are provided for yourself, our staff and the general public, including managing maintenance plans for all equipment and ensure servicing is carried out when needed.
• Managing the vineyard budget.
• Undertake all tasks as reasonably requested from time to time by the company/business.
The role is physically demanding with a good majority of the work taking place outdoors and operating equipment in the vineyard. The role will involve working a varied schedule during the growing season and harvest, and across other vineyard sites as required.
Experience is a must. Mandatory requirements include:
• PA1-PA3 licence
• UK Driver’s license
• Competent operator of all vineyard equipment and tractors.
• Computer literate
• Staff Management Experience
