The Retail Shop Assistant is a part-time, on-site role based in Southwell. Responsibilities include welcoming customers, providing product information, handling sales transactions, and maintaining a clean, well-organised shop floor. The role involves restocking shelves, checking inventory levels, and setting up product displays to support promotions and seasonal offers. The Retail Shop Assistant will also assist with opening and closing procedures, cash handling, and basic record-keeping. Collaboration with the shop owner to suggest improvements in customer service, merchandising, and local marketing activities is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Strong customer service skills, including clear communication, active listening, and a friendly, professional manner.
• Basic retail operations skills, such as cash handling, point-of-sale (POS) system use, and inventory awareness.
• Ability to maintain shop presentation, including cleanliness, merchandising, and attention to detail.
• Reliable time management skills and the ability to work independently in a small team environment.
• Comfort engaging with a diverse range of customers and resolving issues calmly and respectfully.
• Willingness to learn about products and promotions, with a proactive approach to supporting sales.
• Previous experience in retail, hospitality, or customer-facing roles is beneficial but not required.
• Availability to work flexible part-time hours, including some weekends and peak trading periods.
• WSET Wine education is required.
