Hencote is a family owned Vineyard Estate on the outskirts of Shrewsbury, Shropshire, comprising a vineyard and winery, restaurant and luxury glamping village.
Established in 2015, The vineyard has consistently produced award-winning wines, including two-thirds of all gold medals given to English red wines at the International Wine Challenge, for two red wines produced from Hencote's first commercial vintage.
Hencote is seeking a Vineyard Manager to oversee the 6.7 hectares of high-quality vines to enable the vision of establishing Hencote as one of England's foremost still and sparkling producers.
Working with and under the supervision of our Winemaker, the successful candidate will have experience of managing a small team and working with cool climate vine varieties.
Key Responsibilities/Job Roles:
- Tractor Operations – air assisted spraying, hydraulic soil cultivator, foliage trimming, mowing
- Vine Operations – pruning, tying, frost control, bud rub, canopy management, harvest
- Equipment Maintenance – running checks on vehicles, machinery & implements, vineyard trellis & headlands, buildings
- Record Keeping – stock control, weather station, Productivity, EL & SWD monitoring
- Team Supervision – seasonal vineyard part time and volunteer staff
Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
- Viticultural degree or equivalent
- PA1, PA2 and PA3 pesticide certification
- IT skills
- Eligibility to work in the UK
- Driving licence
