Employment Type: Seasonal Contract (3 months, with potential for extension and progression)
The Role
Carvers Hill Estate is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Harvest assistant winemaker and vineyard manager to join our winemaking team for the upcoming vintage. This is a hands-on role, working closely with our winemaker and cellar team during the busiest and most rewarding time of the year. You’ll be involved in all aspects of harvest and cellar operations, from grape intake and fermentation management to cleaning and sanitation.
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain practical experience in a high-quality boutique winery, with the potential to extend into post-harvest vineyard work and, for the right candidate, grow into a long-term position as Assistant Winemaker and Vineyard Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Receiving and processing grapes during harvest
- Assisting with ferment management, including pump-overs and additions
- Cleaning and sanitising equipment, tanks, barrels, and workspaces
- Supporting the winemaking team across cellar operations as required
- Assisting in the vineyard post-harvest with general maintenance and vineyard tasks
- Ensuring all work is carried out safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of hygiene
Requirements
- Must have the right to work in the U.K.
- Previous winery experience or qualifactions in the industry
- Strong work ethic and a willingness to get involved in all tasks, big and small
- Physically fit and comfortable with manual, hands-on work
- Flexibility to work variable hours, including evenings and weekends during peak harvest
- Good understanding of winery hygiene and attention to detail
- Positive attitude and ability to work well as part of a small team
Desirable
- Forklift licence (or willingness to obtain one)
- Previous vineyard experience or interest in viticulture
- Keen interest in wine and winemaking with aspirations to grow in the industry
