Furleigh Estate is a vineyard and winery established in 2005 and based in Salway Ash, near Bridport, Dorset. We are a small, family business with global ambitions. We have a small winery team producing sparkling and still wines for ourselves and a number of clients.
We are looking for an experienced, pro-active, detail-minded, hands-on Assistant Winemaker to help with our 2026 harvest. The work would be for our afternoon shift during picking days (2-3 weeks) after which we go back to normal work hours 08:30-17:00.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise grape reception, press loading, crushing, juice allocation and additions
- Inoculations, co-ordinate pump-overs, fermentation monitoring, basic lab analyses (pH, TA, SG)
- Help with malolactic fermentation (mother culture, malic acid tests etc.)
- Ensure accurate documentation of cellar activities and grape weights
- Maintain hygiene across all equipment and work spaces
- Communicate effectively with the Wine-Maker and Cellar Hands
- Monitor cellar supplies and report needs
Person Specification:
Essential
- Previous harvest or cellar experience in a commercial winery
- Strong communication skills
- Physically fit and able to work long hours
- Uk driving licence
- Right to work in the UK
Desirable
Three-month contract with possibility of extension. Start date is early September.
Remuneration commensurate with experience.
