Barton Brownsdon and Sadler has a permanent full-time position available. The role is a varied position that includes responsibilities within both the purchase and sales side of the company. They will be reporting directly to the Director and owner of the company. They will be assisted in the role by another part-time employee.
The role will involve receiving orders from customers and overseeing the orders through to successful delivery and invoicing. Orders are placed by business customers throughout the UK by telephone or email or via one of the sales reps. It is then processed and passed to the warehouse for picking and packing and then onward delivery via the pallet networks.
Good communication skills over the phone and by email are essential as you will be dealing with warehouse staff, hauliers, accounts departments and senior wine buyers.
There will also be the opportunity to work on the purchasing side of the company. The candidate would be responsible for placing orders direct with vineyards from all over the world and working with shipping companies and clearance agents to ensure deliver into our bonded warehouse. Any language skills (French, Spanish or Italian) are of benefit but not essential.
An interest in wine is a huge help in this role but a detailed knowledge of wine is not required. There are opportunities to get involved in wine tastings and there is an attractive staff discount!
Whilst this is predominantly a desk based role (the main warehouse is at a different location) the successful candidate will sometimes be required to help with unloading cases from pallets, prepare and pack samples and prepare small orders for local customers who collect from our office.
Barton Brownsdon & Sadler is an independent wine importer, distributing wines from small-medium sized growers and wineries from France, Italy, Chile, Argentina and more. We curate the wine list ourselves and sell to the off trade throughout the UK, NI and Channel Islands.
Located within the downs in Partridge Green, Sussex, this role will suit someone (but not limited to) wanting to gain experience in the wine industry or an office environment with attractive working hours, opportunity to fit around studies or family. Due to the semi-remote location of the office, we do recommend you have access to your own vehicle.

- Have excellent customer service skills
- Be organised and manage time well, particularly with multiple tasks and deadlines
- Be flexible with your working day; the role involves work in both the office and warehouse area
- Have an interest in wine and the drinks industry
This salary, depending on experience is 25-35k per annum pro rata including benefits.
Start date is August/September 2025
