Vineyard Manager for Country Estate in Somerset. Start date January 2024.
Aldwick Estate is a Family-owned vineyard, wedding venue and working farm, based 10 miles Southwest of Bristol in North Somerset.
The 12 acres of vines are set over two plots adjacent to the Farm. Six different varieties were planted in 2008 and it is now an established and highly successful award-winning wedding & events venue, where the vineyard plays an integral part to its success, producing award winning wines.
The vineyard produces on average around 25,000 bottles per year which are then sold through vineyard tours, events, and local and national trade sales.
The Estate are seeking to recruit a vineyard manager who will assist in the growing of high-quality grapes and will oversee the management of the vineyard throughout the year. The position also seeks the candidate to assist the farm manger when required.
The applicant will be required to work alongside the managing director, in order to deliver the requirements for the business.
Experience in viticulture is essential but additional training can be offered where required.
Responsibilities will include:
· Pruning
· Understanding & creating the spray programme
· General maintenance of the vineyard
· Canopy Management
· Overseeing and recruiting seasonal labour
· Record keeping
· Liaising with Aldwick’s Wine Maker
· Management of Harvest
· Sustainability practice
· Assisting Farm Manager
The Applicant:
· Should be passionate about the health of the vineyard
· Be driven to produce quality grapes
· Be happy to work individually
· Take clear direction from management
· Be confident in managing seasonal workers
· Have good time management skills
· Competent in operating machinery
· Should have a clean driving license
· Have a fork lift operating license or be happy to complete this training
· Spray certificates a bonus but not essential
· Willing to support the business as required in other areas relating to the vineyard & farm
