Management Accountant Job Specification

Working Hours: 9:00–17:30, Monday to Friday (with ad-hoc home working)

Hambledon specialises in traditional method English sparkling wines, including: Classic Cuvée, Classic Cuvée Rosé, Première Cuvée and Blanc de Blancs NV. In 2025, Hambledon expanded its hospitality offerings with a 40-cover restaurant, a relaxed Courtyard dining area, and a Cellar Door Shop. The estate offers vineyard tours, tastings, and private events in the Douro and St James Tasting Rooms, enhancing its status as a must-visit destination for wine and food lovers.
Purpose of the Role
· Take ownership of the group’s financial processes and procedures, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and reporting requirements.
· Produce accurate and timely financial statements; ensure all balance sheets are reconciled with supporting schedules.
· Manage the group’s cash and working capital position daily; prepare rolling cashflow forecasts.
· Liaise with the company’s clearing bank and Asset Based Lending provider, including monthly covenant reporting.
· Maintain and strengthen the financial control environment.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management
· Oversee transactional finance: accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll & expenses, billing & income recognition, VAT, and HMRC Wine Duty.
· Own and reconcile group balance sheets, maintaining detailed supporting schedules.
· Produce a consolidated monthly balance sheet pack for review.
· Manage daily cash and working capital; report to directors.
· Maintain accurate rolling cash flow forecasts for board review.
· Keep debt funding facilities up to date.
· Produce accurate and timely financial statements and reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
· Prepare monthly management reporting packs, including detailed variance analysis.
· Develop and maintain financial policies and procedures to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
· Prepare KPIs to provide insights to the Senior Management Team.
· Assist with annual budgets and quarterly re-forecasts; review performance.
· Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technical accounting standards and industry matters; act as a key source of financial information.
· Lead the annual audit of the group.
· Support the transition of the group’s financial software from Sage to Microsoft Dynamics (Bevica).
Candidate Profile
· Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, ACMA) preferred; QBE considered.
· Minimum 5 years’ accounting and finance experience, with at least 2 years in a financial management or similar role.
· Background in hospitality, drinks industry, or agri-business preferred.
· Strong technical accounting skills; proven track record in producing timely and accurate financial statements, and full reconciliation of balance sheets and cash flows.
· High attention to detail and consistency.
· Solid knowledge of UK GAAP.
· Strong analytical and financial modelling skills.
· Good understanding of financial and operational IT systems with Microsoft Dynamics experience preferred.
· Advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
· Ability to articulate financial topics and collaborate at all levels.
· Able to work independently and as part of a team, under pressure and to tight deadlines.
· Confident communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
