About Taurus Wines
Established in 2001, Taurus Wines is an award-winning independent wine merchant based in a recently renovated 400-year-old barn on a farm in the Surrey Hills, near Guildford.
We specialise in retailing fine and party wines and as well as shelves full of delicious bottles from around the world, we have a Spiral Cellar and climate-controlled fine wine cabinet, plus Enomatic wine dispensing machines. Customers can come and browse and taste during the working week, plus we organise evening wine tastings and host wine schools.
We also have a state-of-the-art website powered by market-leading Shopify software and can offer customers next day nationwide delivery via our courier or often same-day delivery with our own vans.
We supply local high-end restaurants and concession stores and also have a fantastic relationship with local caterers and wedding venues, meaning our wholesale and party sides of the business are kept active and busy year round.
We are looking for:
Trainee Manager
This is a full-time role – five days per week including Saturdays (and Sundays in November and December) depending on shift pattern. The role will mostly be store-based, however we expect the successful applicant to get to ‘know the turf’ by spending the majority of the first few months with us in one of the vans. This is essential as it’s the best way to get to know the area, the customers (retail and trade) and the routes which will then allow them to manage drivers in the future.
Reporting to the Managing Director and Assistant Manager, our Trainee Manager must be physically fit and able to carry and lift up to 18kg (case of 12 bottles of wine in wood) and have no previous back or limb injuries.
A full, clean driving licence is a must with capability to drive vans of up to 3.5tons (class B1 vehicles).
As with all small businesses, a willingness to roll up sleeves and get stuck in to all areas of the business is highly appreciated and in return a thorough and well-rounded knowledge of the wine trade, including on-going industry-standard education, will be gained. This is an excellent starting role for a keen beginner in the trade, or for someone who already has experience from one of the larger chains or other independent merchants.
Although we would prefer someone educated to a degree level, this is not essential, and we are interested more in what drives you and why you’d be a good fit for our business and want to work in the wine trade.
Benefits
28 days holiday a year (inclusive of national bank holidays), plus a half day holiday on your birthday
20% staff discount
A contributory pension plan
Sponsorship through WSET training and other training relevant to the role such as first aid courses and forklift truck training
Opportunity to broaden knowledge of the wine trade with in-house and external wine tastings and visits to vineyards both in the UK and abroad
Working in a beautiful location with free on-site parking, café and delicatessen
