Calancombe Estate South Devon an award winning vineyard, winery and distillery in South Devon is looking for an Expereienced Vineyard Manager
Calancombe Estate, a family run vineyard, winery, Cellar Door restaurant and distillery in South Devon is seeking a Winemaker and a Vineyard Manager to join its friendly team. Calancombe Estate near Modbury, South Devon extends to approximately 23 hectares and comprises 8 hectares of vines including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Bacchus, Ortega, Pinot Gris and Madeleine Angevine. In addition to vines, we grow apples, blackcurrants and rhubarb from which we make delicious sparkling cyder, apple brandy, cassis and rhubarb gin. The Calancombe Estate is also home to Dartmouth English Gin.
Vineyard Manager
The successful candidate will:
· Carry out all aspects of vineyard management including Winter pruning, Summertime canopy management, mowing, spraying, soil cultivations, weed control, crop monitoring, harvesting and harvest labour
· Have previous vineyard experience
· Be self-motivated and proactive in organising and scheduling activities in the vineyard and looking to continuously improve
· Manage and support apprentice/assistant
· Be prepared to support winery operations following harvest and other busy times like bottling and there is the opportunity to learn about winemaking and to get involved in tours and tastings too.
· Assist with pruning of the apple orchards and blackcurrant fields (used to make our cassis)
· Organise harvest labour
· Have good tractor experience and hold necessary spray qualifications for curtain sprayer
· Proficiency certificate for forklift operation helpful but not essential
· Have a clean driving licence and own transport.
· Have a strong team-working ethos, as well as the ability to quickly adapt to new tasks.
· Be flexible in working extended hours when necessary, for example, during the harvest period and to ensure spraying is undertaken in suitable conditions as required.
· Have the right to work in UK
Salary will be commensurate with previous experience but likely in the approximate range £35k to £40k.
