The role of Sommelier is to offer confident and consistent preparation, evaluation, and service of fine wine for the AWC Wine Academy. This position offers the unique opportunity to work with rare fine wines, often of advanced maturity. Candidacy for this position requires an advanced level of wine knowledge and wine service.

 

Key responsibilities include:

 

•  Opening wines, assessing the condition, and noting any faults or service requirements
•  Properly decanting wines for aeration and sediment
•  Assessing the required number of bottles required for each given event
•  Equally pouring each wine, taking into account the optimal service temperature for each wine
• Coordinating with presenters to determine any special service requirements

 

 

Additional responsibilities include:

• Preparing the tasting room with wine glasses, tasting mats, water glasses, fact booklets, etc.
• Serving sparkling wine during receptions
• Serving canapé’s during receptions
• Monitoring on-going guest/tasting requirements; topping up water glasses, removing empty glassware, etc.
• Serving small plate dishes
