Artelium is recruiting a Winery & Production Operative, to play a key role in our growing winemaking team and contribute to our growth and success.
In 2022 Artelium was awarded the IWC trophy for best English still wine, and five WineGB trophies including best Blanc de Blancs, top sparkling wine, best south-east producer, newcomer of the year and supreme champion. We have 55 acres of vines planted across our two vineyard sites at Streat, East Sussex and Madehurst, West Sussex. Our winery, located at our Madehurst vineyard, is being expanded to produce 200,000 bottles a year and to provide retail and restaurant facilities for visitors to the estate. We are developing our winemaking team to build on this reputation and craft exceptional still and sparkling wines.
As our Winery & Production Operative, you will:
Be a permanent member of our winery team, based on-site at our winery facility in Madehurst, West Sussex. The role involves work throughout the year carrying out key winemaking tasks associated with the later stages of wine production, e.g. riddling and disgorging of sparkling wines; labelling and packaging of still and sparkling wines; order fulfilment and stock control; and upkeep of the winery facilities.
In addition, you will provide a supportive role to the earlier stages on winemaking; during harvest when grapes arrive for pressing and later when new wines are bottled. The role reports to Managers at the winery.
Responsibilities:
· Loading and unloading of wine riddling cages and stillages
· Disgorging of sparkling wine
· Labelling and packaging of still and sparkling wine
· Dispatch of pallets and cases of wine for customer orders
· Assisting with stock control
· Assisting with record keeping of goods received, goods dispatched, and work orders performed
· Shared responsibilities for cleaning equipment and facilities
· Support to the winemaking team during harvest for grape receival and pressing; and bottling of new wines
· In addition, there may be the occasional opportunities to:
o Assist the vineyard team with various aspects of grape growing, and
o Support the hospitality team with customer events at the vineyards and winery.
Key Skills & Attributes:
· Focus on achieving world-class quality and customer service at all stages of operations
· Detail oriented and able to carefully track and monitor our operations
· Ability to lift and handle cases of wine up to 25 kg
· A positive attitude and teamwork as a key member of a small winery team
· Initiative to perform tasks and improve processes while performing duties with the team or working alone
· Willingness to learn on the job.
· Clean UK driving licence and access to own vehicle essential
Production management, stock control and warehousing activities are key to this role, therefore:
· Forklift experience is highly preferred, with forklift driver's certification or progress towards it very helpful
· Previous experience as a production operative or a warehouse operative is helpful
· Prior winery experience is helpful but not essential as training will be provided.
Working Hours & Salary
· Monday to Friday 8:00 – 4:30, with a half hour for lunch
· Salary: a competitive salary and employment benefits dependent on experience
· Training will be provided.
