Who we are:
Vagabond is Britain’s leading and multi award-winning wine bar and urban winery business based in London. From a small store in Fulham in 2010, Vagabond today has nine wine bars and an urban winery, with several more venues in the pipeline. We pioneered the ‘pour your own’ service model with self-dispensing wine and beer systems. More recently we introduced an app that, amongst other features, enables guests to dispense wine directly from their phones.
We make a lot of our own wine, from English wines at our urban winery in Battersea Power Station to international wines in collaboration with selected wineries around the world. Vagabond-made wines form a strategically important part of the business by ensuring exclusive supply of best-in-class wines to our customers.
Our innovative concepts and business model has been widely copied, but we always remain several steps ahead of any competition thanks to our tireless innovation and genuine passion for wine. Our first non-London venue will launch this autumn and we are actively pursuing international expansion.
A bit about the role:
We are looking for an energetic winemaker to continue pushing boundaries at our Battersea winery. The successful applicant will have the following:
· Tertiary qualifications in viticulture & oenology or equivalent experience
· Be skilled in the use of all winery equipment and cellar work, with a good understanding of sanitation and waste management
· Experience conducting juice/wine analysis and trials in a small laboratory
· Experience finishing wines for bottling, and supervising contract bottling
· Organised and with good communication skills; you will manage grower liaison, harvest logistics and FSA compliance
· The ability to run staff training and pubic tastings in a confident and engaging way
· Reliable and prepared to work extended hours over harvest
· A drivers licence is essential, as regular vineyard visits are required, as is travel to contract bottling
The ideal candidate will be energetic and passionate, with a good sense of humour. You will manage and lead a small team over harvest, and work with our wine buyers to create the styles and quantities required. You will have completed harvests in the UK and overseas as an assistant winemaker or winemaker and can confidently run a small winery on your own. Knowledge of COGS would be helpful, as would knowledge of the relevant UK legislation around wine production and labelling. This is a physical, hands on role and the applicant will need to lift 25kg crates of grapes.
Other Stuff:
This is a permanent, full-time position beginning with a 6-month probationary period.
Salary will be negotiable depending on experience.
