Marketing Assistant (Wine Jobs: Sales & Marketing)

An exciting job has opened up at Harviestoun Brewery in the marketing department. This is a great opportunity to assist in building the existing marketing department with a recent rebrand and marketing campaign to help execute. 

Position Overview.

Working within the UK Marketing Team, the MA will be responsible for assisting the Brand Manager in managing and activating the brand portfolio across all trade channels.

The position reports directly into the Brand Manager.  It has no direct reports.

Specific Role Requirements

  • Brand and Activity Planning: The MA will assist the BM in writing the Annual Brand Plan within the framework of the departmental timetable. They will liaise with appropriate sales, brewery and executive contacts to develop plans for the next business year. Core to this role will be the on-going management and implementation of agreed Activity Plans (including the setting up of Po’s and campaign codes).
  • Sales Liaison:  They will quickly become the key point of contact in supporting their Sales colleagues to achieve volume and distribution targets through effective management of channel specific pricing and promotional programmes in a dynamic, competitive and fluid marketplace.
  • Manage the marketing budget file: The MA will be highly numerate and enjoy working with numbers.  Working with the BM they will be expected to quickly develop a sound financial/commercial understanding to manage a P&L with rigour.  An essential function of this role will be helping the BM to deliver meticulous gross margin, highlighting/explaining any variances. Critical to the financial reporting process will be participation in monthly meetings with Business Planning to review brand A&P.
  • General Administration:  The MA will be responsible for general administration across the portfolio.  This will include maintenance of activity plans, invoice processing, point of sale coordination.  All marketing operation communications should be completed on time as highlighted in the marketing calendar and SMAP manual.
  • Trade Marketing and Sales Ops Liaison:  They will be the vital link from the brand team to the Commercial Ops Department to ensure best possible implementation and evaluation of key initiatives activated across the sectors by the sales teams.  Achieving great visibility at key promotional period will require major focus.
  • Digital Champion:Together with the BM the MA will be skilled and educated on DTP and be able to adjust and manipulate on line sales tools and social media. The MA will be responsible in managing the social media channels, focusing on responding to followers and building Harviestoun Brewery’s social media presence. The MA will work alongside the BM on the creation of content plans and activation of posts, so will need to have a keen interest in the beer sector and have a creative flare to come up with innovative posts to encourage interaction
  • Brand Champion: They will quickly become a passionate brand champion with first rate brand knowledge – the first point of contact for general enquiries on the brands. 
  • Brand Activation and Evaluation:  The MA will be responsible for best practice activation and evaluation of agreed brand activities.  This could involve working with a variety of agencies including PR, Media, Creative and Research. 
  • Acquire and Apply Competitor and Consumer Insight:  As brand expert they will regularly review the competitive set, along with consumer data and market data (Insights) to gain a thorough and up-to-date understanding of the brand and consumer while feeding this back into the planning process. 

Basic Requirements

Of Graduate calibre, the candidate will ideally have a Business or Marketing Degree. Previous FMCG marketing experience is preferred, but not essential.  The ability to demonstrate personal maturity in a fast-paced environment, together with creative thinking and passion for our brands is vital. A keen interest in the drinks industry and knowledge of the sector within the UK is essential. 

A team player with compelling interpersonal and communication skills, tenacity & enthusiasm, they will need a strong sense of self-motivation to deliver results. High numerical aptitude with potential to develop commercial analytical proficiency is required, along with strong planning, project management and PC skills.  The ability to interpret consumer, market, category, customer and financial information will be key. A willingness to learn with a positive, can do attitude.
