About the Role:

 

We are looking for a proactive and skilled Assistant Vineyard Manager to join our growing team. Reporting to the Vineyard Manager, this hands-on role involves primarily overseeing daily operations across our own site whilst also supporting external contract vineyard sites throughout Sussex and the South East of England. This is an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual looking to deepen their practical vineyard experience, develop mechanical and supervisory skills, and work within a dynamic and friendly team.

 

You’ll be involved in all seasonal vineyard activities, from pruning and canopy management to harvest and machinery work. Although the role will primarily be in the vineyard, there is the opportunity for cross training and work in Kinsbrook's winery, which is under development this year.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Vineyard Operations – Carry out core tasks including pruning, canopy management, pest control, fertilisation, and weed management across multiple vineyard sites.
  •  Machinery Operation & Maintenance – Operate tractors and vineyard machinery with confidence; carry out routine servicing and minor mechanical repairs to ensure equipment is safe and reliable.
  •  Site Maintenance – Oversee ground care, trellis upkeep, and infrastructure at both the main estate and clients vineyards.
  • Staff Supervision – Support and lead seasonal workers and contractors; train teams on best practices and maintain high working standards.
  • Harvest Coordination – Organise and manage harvest activities, collaborating with volunteers, winery teams and ensuring efficient grape logistics across multiple locations.
  • Travel Between Sites – Work flexibly across vineyards in the Sussex and, maintaining consistent standards and supporting vineyard partners.
  • Health & Safety – Conduct risk assessments, maintain safety protocols, and lead by example in implementing safe working practices.
  • Record Keeping – Maintain accurate records of vineyard work, chemical applications, machine usage, and yields across sites.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a commercial vineyard
  • PA1 and PA3 spraying certificates (strongly preferred)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, with ability to carry out basic machinery maintenance and minor repairs
  • Tractor driving experience essential
  • Willingness to travel between vineyard sites (vehicle provided or mileage reimbursed)
  • Good leadership and team coordination skills
  • Computer literate and organised with record-keeping
  • Physically fit, comfortable working outdoors in all weather
  • Full UK driving licence and right to work in the UK
