Our client, a reputable wine business with a unique product portfolio, is seeking an experienced individual to lead the management of the vineyard (6 acres) and orchard (9 acres). Reporting directly to the Winemaker/Distiller, you will work closely to produce the required style and quality of wine. You will also assist with the production of wine and spirits.
What your 'day-to-day' will look like:
- Seasonal maintenance of the vineyards and orchards
- Produce a sustainable crop of wine grapes and cider apples
- Annual pruning
- Canopy management
- Trellis installation and maintenance
- Spraying (subject to PA1 and PA3 qualifications)
- Use of tractors, forklifts and agricultural equipment (for mowing, flailing etc)
- Harvesting crop and processing using presses
- Liaising with contractors and suppliers
- Precise record keeping
- Compliance with the company green policy and working practice
- Grounds/boundary management
What you will possess:
- Previous experience of producing/harvesting wine grapes is essential
- Previous experience of orchard work is desired
- Spraying certificates (PA1 and PA3) desired
- Valid forklift license
- Ability to manage seasonal and part-time staff
- Experience of operating relevant machinery (maintenance experience is also desirable)
- Sound problem solving, organisation and communication skills
