Henners Vineyard is looking for a permanent winery and vineyard assistant to join our team. Henners produces traditional method sparkling wines and a growing range of still wines. We work with our own grapes and source fruit from partner vineyards and after recent investment in the winery we have plans for future expansion and growth. We are a small, passionate and very hardworking team looking for an enthusiastic, committed and friendly person to join us and get involved in all aspects of operations. This role will be suitable for someone with an interest in both the vineyard and winery operations as the role will work across both teams at different times of the year.
Key responsibilities
Winery
§ Assisting the winemakers with all aspects of winery work
§ Operations at harvest including grape receival and processing, transfers and rackings, Inoculations
§ Filtration, cold stabilisation
§ Blending and bottling
§ Preparing the wines for tirage
§ Help with general winery maintenance, repairs, trouble-shooting
§ Record keeping
§ Forklift work
§ Perform cleaning and sanitising duties
Vineyard
§ Assisting the vineyard manager with all aspects of vineyard work
§ Viticultural work including pruning, summer canopy management, harvesting and data collection
§ Vineyard repairs such as trellis work, wires and posts
§ Support with tractor operations, mowing, mulching, trimming etc
Hospitality
§ Willingness to help with vineyard tours and tastings
§ Set up for client meetings, tours and tastings
This is great opportunity for the right person to gain experience working at an exciting, developing business at the forefront of English Sparkling Wine industry.
Please note that this is a very hands-on position, can be physically demanding and you need to be ready to work both outdoors and indoors and be flexible and happy to work in both the winery and vineyard. Attention to detail is essential, as is a can-do attitude to pitch in with whatever job is required.
Requirements
§ At least one winery harvest working in cellars, with proven experience in the range of winery tasks outlined in the responsibilities
§ Excellent literacy and numeracy skills with an eye for detail
§ Previous vineyard work including winter pruning and summer canopy management
§ Forklift experience, a forklift licence is preferable although certification training will be provided
§ Willing to work long hours and occasional weekend work when required
§ Be hard working and committed with the job
§ Over 18 years-old
§ Be fit and able to lift 25 kg
§ All applicants must be eligible to work in the UK
§ Fluent in English
The successful candidate will work very closely with the Estate Manager in all aspects of vineyard and winery operations. References will be requested and contacted.
