ASSISTANT VINEYARD MANAGER  

Hazel Street Vineyard has 40 acres of vines established in 2017 & 2019, based at Horsmonden in Kent, managed in partnership with Davenport Vineyards, who have been growing organic vines on this site since 1991.

The farm is a family-owned business, run by Will Davenport (who has 30 years’ experience in UK organic viticulture and winemaking). The vines are cared for by a small team of four full-time employees who have become an effective and efficient workforce.

We plan to adapt the management towards regenerative viticulture, with the possibility of full organic conversion in the future.

The Role 

Working under Will Davenport, you will be involved in all aspects of managing the vineyards. Experience is not essential in every aspect as training can be provided where required.

Duties will include:

  • Managing the team in all general vineyard operations.
  • Implementing a disease control and soil health plan.
  • Organisation of vineyard tractor operations.
  • Supervising the harvest operations.
  • General vineyard site maintenance and trellis repairs
  • Supervise and motivate the existing vineyard team.
  • Recording vineyard data
  • Create harvest crop estimates
  • Working within allocated budgets

The Person

This is a management position, so requires excellent people skills, good organisational skills and an attention to detail. In addition, we would favour:

  • A viticulture qualification and /or equivalent experience working in vineyards
  • An interest in sustainable vineyard management
  • Experience working with tractors and machinery
  • A love of physical hands-on work
  • PA1 and PA3 spray certificates would be an advantage
  • Full eligibility to work in the UK (essential)
  • Forklift user qualification (not essential, though preferred)
  • A valid UK driving licence
  • Good computer skills
  • A strong work ethic
