Major Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to the Board and ultimately the Chairman and Owner, the right candidate will have a passion for high quality sparkling winemaking along with a desire to meet the unique challenges that our climate brings. An innovative approach is required as we adapt to the changing climate and the possibilities presented by varying conditions each growing season.
To work with all production departments in planning the daily operations including: harvest, tirage, cleanliness, quality management, logistics and organisation
To nurture existing relationships with our grape suppliers and vineyard partners as well as plan for the continuing and ongoing supply of high quality grapes into the winery
Liaise with contract winemaking clients on their wine styles, release dates, blending, trials, dry goods, etc
Strategic direction of the vineyard, wine styles, winery workflow and equipment ensuring each department works to budget and quality parameters
Work with the Commercial Director to ensure a consistent supply of key products looking forward 5-10 years as well as monitoring the production of the current releases
· Dosage Trials on imminent releases – both for Hattingley wines and those of our clients
· Blending Trials for Hattingley wines and those of our clients
Make key decisions at harvest, blending and dosage to ensure we consistently produce high quality wines and lead the market in new product development.
Appear at Winemaker Dinners, events, tours, trade tastings, wine shows, private events, at the winery, in trade in London, the wider UK and in our export markets as required.
Domestic and International travel is a necessary part of the job.
A degree in Viticulture & Oenology or equivalent plus experience in running a commercial winemaking operation.
Experience working with traditional method sparkling wines is essential, experience with other winemaking styles also desirable.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple arms of the production
A flexible approach to working hours during critical times such as harvest and bottling is essential.
Ability to manage and inspire your team.
Confidence and communication skills to impart knowledge to consumers and trade visitors at tours and events.
Ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders at all levels, from growers, landowners, farmers, clients, hauliers, your team, the Board, as well as customers.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
Relocation expenses may be considered for the right candidate.
