Black Chalk - Events Manager

 

Black Chalk is an exciting, award winning boutique producer of English Sparkling wine.  Since our launch in 2018, Black Chalk has acquired 12 hectares of vineyards, developed a new winery in time for the 2020 harvest and has received a raft of plaudits and numerous awards for our wines. The vision is to build a quality driven range of products that showcase both the passion of the people involved and what is possible on a boutique scale here in Hampshire.

 

The Events Manager will report to the CEO. The role will have a dual focus - to deliver and market events onsite/offsite while also having the potential to become involved in the wider Black Chalk marketing and brand strategy. This is a multi-faceted position which will need experience and expertise in a number of different areas. First and foremost the successful candidate will be a true ambassador for Black Chalk Wine. They will need to represent the brand in a positive and professional manner at all times.

THE ROLE:

 

Events  - 

  • Plan and execute an annual calendar of Black Chalk events both consumer and trade facing, on and off-site.
  • Create and manage the annual events budget.
  • Carry out detailed cost and revenue projections for individual events, ensuring that they are commercially viable or of strategic value to the Black Chalk brand.
  • Enhance success/potential of events through targeted advertising and publicity, both within the local Hampshire market and further afield where appropriate.
  • Work closely with the Tasting Room, Winery, Vineyard and Sales teams to deliver events to a high standard.
  • Promote Black Chalk’s on-site facilities to the corporate market as a venue for team conferences, events etc.
  • Evaluate performance of events and keep detailed records

 

Marketing - 

  • Create marketing plan annually in collaboration with the CEO and board. 
  • Develop all winery, POS, web, customer and wine club communication
  • Work with Tasting Room manager to create and grow in-house retail customer database in line with GDPR requirements.
  • Explore opportunities to work with local businesses where it would raise the profile of the Black Chalk brand and drive footfall to our site.
  • In collaboration with the CEO, develop performance metrics to evaluate the progress of Black Chalk marketing initiatives
  • Keep website, online store, all winery communication and event calendars up-to-date
  • Maintain constant communication with PR agent
  •  Coordinate and provide on-site support for photo shoots and Journalist visits. 
  • Work with our Graphic Design agent in creating and printing all marketing materials & advertisements to ensure brand messages are consistent.
  • Represent Black Chalk at appropriate trade events within the industry and have the ability to work weekends, evenings, as needed.
  • Contribute to our PR messaging. Assist PR agent in securing, organising, and staffing media appointments 
  • Develop and execute strategies for engaging media & industry influencers
  • Work with Tasting Room and Sales Teams to promote winery, consumer and wine club events
  • Work with Tasting Room and Sales Teams to drive traffic to winery
  • Review all communications on all social media platforms to ensure consistent brand messaging
  • Monitor and engage in online conversations on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram, blogs, web, etc.

JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

 

  • Proven track record of planning and executing events is required
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing marketing strategies, ideally in the hospitality sector or in relation to a premium brand.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A knowledge and passion for both wine and the industry itself is desirable
  • Excellent knowledge of social media platforms 
  • Willing to offer support in all areas of the business when required (i.e. winery and vineyard)
  • Proficiency in IT - comfortable with Word/Excel/Website Site Maintenance
  • Excellent social media communication   
  • WSET qualifications - desirable
