Harvest Winery Assistant
Hambledon Vineyard, Hampshire
Temporary contract: 16 September – 18 November
£12.71 per hour + flat-rate + overtime + accommodation + meals during harvest
Established in 1952 by Major-General Sir Guy Salisbury-Jones, Hambledon Vineyard is proudly known as England’s oldest commercial vineyard. More than 70 years later, with the support of Berry Bros. & Rudd and Symington Family Estates, we remain dedicated to one goal: crafting the finest English sparkling wine.
As we head into our busiest and most exciting time of year, we are looking for Harvest Winery Assistants to join our winery team and play a hands-on role in producing both Hambledon wines and wines for our contract customers.
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain harvest experience in one of England’s most historic and respected vineyards, working alongside a passionate and skilled team in a fast-paced winery environment.
What you’ll do
You’ll support the winemakers and winery supervisors with a wide range of harvest and cellar tasks, including:
- Fruit receival and processing
- Pressing, racking and fermentation management
- Lab analysis and wine additions
- Barrel work and general cellar operations
- Maintaining exceptional hygiene, cleanliness and safety standards throughout the winery
What we’re looking for
We’d love to hear from people who are enthusiastic, hardworking and keen to be part of harvest. You will ideally have:
- Winery experience or a wine production qualification - helpful, but not essential
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn on the job
- Good organisation and attention to detail
- The ability to work well as part of a small team
- An understanding of the importance of winery and cellar hygiene
- A practical, hands-on approach; mechanical skills are a bonus
- A forklift licence — beneficial, but not essential
Harvest realities
Harvest is an intense and rewarding time in the winery, so successful candidates should be comfortable with:
- Shifts of up to 12 hours during busy periods
- Weekend and night work when required
- Physical work, including lifting up to 25kg
