Halfpenny Green Wine Estate is located in South Staffordshire, midway between Wolverhampton and Bridgnorth, comprising 35 acres of vineyards on-site, with several satellite vineyards located within 45 minutes drive. We currently handle upwards of 600 tons of grapes per year, covering our own brand wines and winemaking for over 60 client vineyards across the North, Midlands and Wales. We have recently celebrated 40 years in operation, and are beginning a new phase of upgrading and expanding our facilities, aiming to be one of the premier sites in a burgeoning UK industry.
Reporting to the Operations Winemaker, we offer the right candidate the opportunity to work at a well-established yet still growing winery, under a team of winemakers with extensive experience in cool-climate winemaking.
Core Responsibilities

Assisting the winemakers in production of still and sparkling wines for both own label and contract customer wines

Undertaking cellar operations throughout the year, from fruit receival & lab analysis, to barrel handling, through to oxygen management and pre-bottling stabilisation and filtration

A drive for accuracy and efficiency

A keen focus on sanitation, tidiness & hygiene, and maintaining health & safety standards

Assisting with record-keeping, cellar stock monitoring, and processing data for handover to post-production

Flexibility to work additional hours at harvest and during bottling
Skills/qualities we’re looking for:
-
Legal right to work in the UK
-
1+ years cool-climate winemaking experience and/or qualification in wine production
-
Willing to follow work orders & instructions, referencing SOPs and risk assessments when carrying out tasks, identifying and escalating any issues for resolution where needed

Strong problem solving and communication skills, liaising within the winery team, with post-production staff, and other on-site teams where required

Motivated to be able to work alone and as part of a team, as well as being outdoors in poor/changeable conditions

After training in-role, the ability to take on supervisory responsibilities in the cellar as required by the Operations Winemaker

Physically fit, capable of carrying heavy loads, working at height safely, and prepared to undertake periods of intense manual work

Experience with winery software/ERP systems, such as InnoVint/Vintrace desired

Forklift experience, certification desirable but not essential

Full driving licence and own transport, due to location

Hours: 5 day week, 38 hours minimum. Up to 60 hours (6 days) during harvest.
