Job Title: Cellar Supervisor
Location: Crawley, West Sussex
Reporting to: Cellar Manager
Responsible for: Cellar Hands, Winery and Warehouse Assistants
Key Communications: Winemaker, Dispatch Manager, Office Manager
Overall Purpose:
To lead and train permanent and temporary staff as well as participate in all wine production operations related to high quality sparkling wine production.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Leadership and Supervisory
- Together with their reporting Cellar Hands and Winery and Warehouse Assistants to implement daily and weekly work schedules
- Lead and participate in a team covering all aspects of daily winery operations
- Train, motivate and supervise full-time and temporary cellar staff where required to achieve safety and efficiency targets
- To act as shift supervisor at the winery or pressing centres for temporary staff during the harvest period under the direction of the Winemaker
Winery Operational Duties
- To operate the bottling and disgorging lines when required including leading their team and agency staff working on the lines.
- Give effect to plans relating to racking, blending, cold stabilization, filtration and bottling of wines in tank.
- Via Cellar Hands and Winery Assistants give effect to riddling and transferring plans.
- Train junior staff and new starters on winemaking tasks to the point where they could work without supervision.
- o Responsible for writing protocols, training documents and reports to a professional standard.
General:
- Extras hours and complete flexibility over working days is required at crucial times of the year, especially Harvest.
- To work in collaboration with all members of the winery team to ensure smooth operation of the winery and a positive work environment.
- To maintain a safe, clean, neat and tidy work environment at all times and act as a role model in that regard for temporary staff.
- To work at any of the Nyetimber production facilities as required. o Member of HACCP, Safety and/or Inventory team if required.
- To show initiative in keeping up to date with personal training records and updates to winery Standard Operating Protocols and/or Risk Assessments.
- To undertake any prescribed training as required.
- To act as a positive ambassador of Nyetimber when interacting with external parties. Able to speak passionately and expertly about wine production at Nyetimber.
- Undertake other duties commensurate with the responsibilities of the role and any other reasonable management request.
