Job Title: Cellar Hand
Location: Crawley, West Sussex
Reporting to: Cellar Supervisor
Responsible for: No direct reports, but supervisory and training duties are required.
Key Communications: Winery and Warehouse Production Assistant, Cellar Manager, Winemaker
Overall Purpose: To be responsible for tasks related to high quality sparkling wine production.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Winery Operational Duties
o Carry out all winery production operations accurately and in a timely fashion. These production activities will include working with both wine in tank and bottled stock.
o To deputise for the Cellar Supervisor as operator of the disgorging and bottling lines when required
o Train junior staff and new starters on winemaking tasks to the point where they could work with supervision.
o Able to operate Padovan earth filter and heat exchanger
o Act as shift supervisor at harvest if required by line manager
General:
o Extras hours and complete flexibility over working days is required at crucial times of the year, especially Harvest (October).
o To work in collaboration with all members of the winery team to ensure smooth operation of the winery and a positive work environment.
o To maintain a safe, clean and tidy work environment at all times and act as a role model in that regard for temporary staff.
o To work at any of the Nyetimber production facilities as required.
o To show initiative in keeping up to date with personal training records and updates to winery Standard Operating Protocols and/or Risk Assessments.
o To undertake any prescribed training as required.
o To act as a positive ambassador of Nyetimber when interacting with external parties.
o Able to speak passionately and expertly about wine production at Nyetimber.
o Undertake other duties commensurate with the responsibilities of the role and any other reasonable management request.
