Rewilding Estate Coordinator (2/3 days)
Nyetimber is a pioneering luxury brand and multiple award-winning English sparkling wine producer. Our story is one of many firsts; we were the first to pioneer the now-established style of English sparkling wine; we were the first to grow the renowned grape varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier in England exclusively for producing sparkling wine; and the estate were our vines were first planted, was first mentioned in the Domesday book of 1086 by its then Anglo-Saxon name “Nyetimbraha”.
Quality is key to absolutely everything we do at Nyetimber and there is a constant strive for perfection. We produce exceptional sparkling wine, but always keep in mind that the reference to exceptional goes beyond wine, it extends to every touch point of the brand.
We are now seeking to further expand our Vineyard Team. We have an exciting opportunity for a part time (2/3 days) Estate Rewilding Coordinator.
This position is based in the Vineyard and reports directly to the Estate Operations Manager.
Responsibilities
Planning & Projects
- Assist the EOM & Senior Leadership Team to develop a rewilding vision and strategy.
- Work with the EOM to construct a wilder estate management plan which includes plans for the whole estate and timelines for key improvements.
- Review management plans, upgrade and adapt to regulations, including SSSI compliance where required, registration, monitoring, consents and processes.
- Budget for ongoing maintenance, weed control, seeding, and protection/defence solutions,
- Explore grant opportunities and secure resources and funding for the delivery of the Estate’s strategic priorities.
- Coordinate projects and delivery plans which ensure the Estate meets its strategic targets and objectives.
- Engage with South Downs National Park and Natural England to create new land management plan for areas within SSSI regulations.
Operations
- Expertly assess the diverse areas of land and formulate plans and activities to tackle the broad variety of environmental challenges.
- Carry out inspections and test plans for viability and suitability.
- Undertake a full range of landscaping tasks in a variety of conditions including wetlands, wildflower meadows and woodlands; set standards for maintenance and building upkeep and plan accordingly.
- Ensure estate management plans, survey and monitoring programmes, grazing and agri- environment schemes are implemented.
- Assess current control measures and introduce new strategies to manage flooding, fencing, public access routes, hedges, ditches, and grazing, that maximises biodiversity, carbon storage and essential eco benefits.
- Bring back missing species, introduce habitats to improve the ecosystem, and re-forge key relationships between species that is sensitive and considerate of the local area.
- Refer to changes in Rural Payment with respect to Landscape recovery and Local Nature recovery so that conservation efforts can be rewarded.
- Manage sub-contractors, volunteers or staff as required.
Qualifications
- Degree in relevant subject (e.g. Ecology, biodiversity, land management) or equivalent experience
- A sound multi-disciplinary background with experience of landscape conservation
- Experience coordinating project plans: prioritisation, influencing and budget management.
- Data analysis: interpret physical site information (soil chemistry and geology, hydrology, proximal seed sources etc), existing quantitative and modelled data (e.g. current habitat and biodiversity maps), combined with information about habitat outcomes (e.g. known patterns of habitat succession and impacts of particular management or natural processes).
- Familiar with published literature, able to gather and interpret expert opinion to influence and inform stakeholder groups.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
