We have a opportunity for a Cellar Hand to join our winery team and become a part of our multi-award winning, luxury British Sparkling Wine brand based in Crawley, West Sussex.
Nyetimber are a pioneering luxury brand and multiple award-winning English sparkling wine producer. Our story is one of many firsts, we were the first to pioneer the now-established style of English sparkling wine and we were the first to grow the renowned grape varieties Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier in England exclusively for producing sparkling wine.
Quality is key to absolutely everything we do at Nyetimber and there is a constant strive for perfection. We produce exceptional sparkling wine, but always keep in mind that the reference to exceptional goes beyond wine, it extends to every touch point of the brand.
We are now seeking to further expand our winery team and have an exciting opportunity for a Cellar Hand to join our team. Reporting to our Cellar Supervisor, you will contribute towards all areas of wine production including harvest, bottling, and disgorging operations. This can be fast paced work but full training will be provided.
Your day to day duties will be split between operating production line equipment (bottling and disgorging lines) and cellar work; wine movements/ blending, additions and tirage operations and maintaining high standard of cellar cleanliness.
Cellar Hand – Key Responsibilities:
- To work in collaboration with all members of the winery team to ensure smooth operation of the winery and a positive work environment
- To carry out all winery production operations accurately and in a timely fashion (Including working with both wine in tank and bottled stock)
- With training, be able to operate Padovan earth filter and heat exchanger.
- To maintain a safe, clean and tidy work environment at all times and act as a role model to others in this regard.
- To show initiative in keeping up to date with personal training records and updates to winery Standard Operating Protocols and / or Risk Assessments.
- To act as a positive ambassador of Nyetimber when interacting with external parties, speaking passionately and expertly about our wine production.
Cellar Hand – Essential Skills and Experience Required
- Experience working as part of a team, able to work well with others.
- A strong work ethic, a positive attitude and an eagerness to learn.
- Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
- Physically capable of safely lifting 20Kg, always working in a safe and responsible manner
- Flexibility to work weekends and longer hours over our crucial harvest period (October)
Desirable, but not essential:
- Experience in wine or beverage production, especially in bottling or disgorging operations
- Experience using winery computer software system Vintrace
- First aid or fire warden qualifications, forklift or driving licences.
