Bolney Wine Estate in West Sussex is one of the pioneers of the English wine industry and has been a family business since 1972. We are a producer of premium English still and sparkling wines, sold across all UK channels and exported to overseas markets including the USA, China, Japan and Europe.
At the Estate we welcome thousands of visitors a year for vineyard and winery tours and corporate events and to our on-site café, bar & restaurant.
DUTIES TO INCLUDE:
· To manage the vineyards and the vineyard staff at Bolney Wine Estate.
· Manage the vineyards at the Bolney Wine Estate and consulting as required at vineyards where Bolney Wine Estate purchases grapes.
· Direct, organise, motivate, and train vineyard staff.
· Ensure safe working conditions are provided for yourself, staff and general public, in accordance with Bolney Wine Estate’s COSSH, Health and Safety and training procedures and English Law
· Manage all related COSHH, H&S and Salsa procedures and administration.
· All related vineyard work including, but not limited to; pruning, planting, canopy management, maintenance work (on posts and vines), spraying vines with suitable and authorised chemical products, managing the spray plan and being responsible for it, mechanical work (e.g. mowing, rotavating, fertilising, bud rubbing, vine trimming etc).
· Evaluate the training/pruning system for each variety in each area and assess if changes need to be made.
· Develop with our vineyard consultant a proactive plan for continued improvement in vineyard practices across the site, to include but not limited to, sustainability, improved cropping levels, improved grape ripeness and efficiency (to work to minimise cost and resource requirements).
· Working with external stakeholders.
· Research new systems and sprays that may benefit the vineyard.
· Keep an up-to-date diary of all work done in the vineyard including, but not limited to; flowering dates, bud burst and any other relevant dates that need recording.
· Frost monitoring and prevention.
· To be responsible for stock-take on vineyard chemicals and consumables- ensure ordering is done in advance of need.
· Planting and establishing new vineyard areas.
· To complete a weekly check of all vineyards for assessment purposes and keep a comprehensive record of findings.
· Using mechanical equipment safely and, where necessary, ensure staff are fully trained and are also using equipment safely.
· Use and check maintenance plans for all equipment and ensure servicing is carried out when needed.
· Make sure that faulty equipment is taken out of use and are repaired, informing your line of repairs that need to be made.
· Monitoring the lists of the day to day running of the vineyard.
· Undertake all tasks as reasonably requested from time to time by the company/business.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Tertiary qualifications in viticulture or relevant experience
· PA1 and PA3 spraying certificates
· Forklift qualifications
· Computer literate
