Role Purpose

The Sales Manager with a focus on DTC will drive sales growth, profitability, and customer experience across all direct-to-consumer channels: tasting room, events, external events, and online. You will take full ownership of DTC operations balancing financial rigour with creativity to strengthen Bluestone’s position as a destination brand for wine aficionados and discerning visitors. You will assist also assist in trade sales.


Key Responsibilities

 

Strategic and Financial Management

  • Develop and deliver budgets, sales targets, and forecasts for DTC activities (tasting room, events, online shop).
  • Manage DTC P&L, including controlling costs, optimising pricing and margins, and delivering profitable growth.
  • Track performance against targets; provide regular reporting and insights to the Managing Director.
  • Identify and implement commercial opportunities to increase key DtC metrics (SPH, ATV, UPT, Conversion, repeat custom, and overall profitability.


Sales and Revenue Growth

  • Lead initiatives to grow tasting room sales, event bookings, and online sales volume and value.
  • Plan and deliver sales campaigns, packages, and upsell strategies that enhance guest value and loyalty.
  • Develop & oversee wine club/membership sales where relevant, driving sign-ups and retention.
  • Build partnerships with high-net-worth audiences, tourism networks, and corporate clients for private events.

Customer Experience & Service Excellence

  • Set and uphold best-in-class service standards that align with Bluestone’s brand.
  • Design and refine tasting room experiences and event formats to maximise guest satisfaction and repeat visits.
  • Gather and act on customer feedback to continuously improve the visitor journey, both on-site and online.

Operational Leadership

  • Recruit, train, and motivate the DTC team (tasting room, events staff, online fulfilment) to deliver on goals.
  • Implement processes and systems to ensure smooth operations, stock control, and compliance.
  • Monitor and manage expenditure, including staffing, suppliers, and event costs.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement

  • Generate and test ideas to enhance the Bluestone experience, whether in-person or online.
  • Implement technology and tools to improve efficiency, data capture, and customer communication.
  • Review and enhance mechanisms for performance review, customer feedback, and internal reporting.


Person Specification

  • Proven track record in DTC, hospitality, retail, or luxury brand sales management.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience managing P&L, budgeting, and delivering profitable growth.
  • Experience in leading and developing a customer-facing team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to engage effectively with high-value customers.
  • Creative thinker with a solutions-focused, data-driven approach to decision-making.
  • Wine industry experience
  • WSET level 2+ qualification
  • Sales experience within the premium drinks industry.
  • Ability to build strong relationships.
  • Ability to work autonomously and highly self-motivated.
  • Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Commercial and luxury brand focus.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet targets.
  • Excellent levels of literacy and numeracy.
  • Luxury brand-building experience.
  • Experience in tourism, visitor attractions, or premium events.
  • Knowledge of ecommerce platforms, CRM systems, and digital marketing.
