Warden Abbey Vineyard is an award-winning and historic four acre vineyard near Old Warden in Bedfordshire. It is now run by Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity as a not-for-profit community project.
The project works with other local charities and schools to provide a unique way to provide social and therapeutic benefits from working outdoors in this beautiful setting. Our wonderful volunteers are involved in all aspects of the care and development of the vineyard, and the sale of our still and sparkling wines.
We are now looking for a hard-working and enthusiastic Vineyard Manager to oversee and maintain the vineyard, and continue to develop it as a community resource for volunteers and visitors.
This wide-ranging role is ideal for a self-starter with previous experience in viticulture, agriculture or horticulture or similar, and looking for a new challenge.
You’ll use your management skills to run a successful community project, working with our volunteer team, and oversee all aspects of the vineyard from grape production to wine sales, while still getting stuck in when needed with all practical aspects of vineyard operations and running.
The ideal candicate will have:-
- Practical experience in vineyards or a viticulture qualification, or experience in horticulture/agriculture with a strong knowledge of plants and enthusiasm to learn about viticulture
- Proven track record of good team-building and communication skills and enjoy working with a diverse range of people with different levels of skills
- Confidence, enthusiasm, be adaptable and flexible
- Full Driving Licence
The hours will be between 21 to 25 hours per week and a discussion about this can happen at the interview stage. The hours worked will vary,and may include early mornings and weekends where necessary.
Depending on the applications we receive, there is an opportunity to split the role into a job share between two people.
