A vacancy has arisen for an Operational Buyer with responsibility for the procurement of all wines, spirits and other drinks required by the company. The role includes management of the purchasing process, working with external suppliers and communication with the sales team. The successful candidate will need to ensure a robust and optimised supply chain that delivers competitive pricing and meets customer requirements. Reporting to the General Manager, this is a full-time position, based in Banbury but with occasional overseas travel.
Established in 1848, SH Jones is an independent wine and spirit merchant with a long history of supplying bars, restaurants and hotels throughout the Midlands and South of England. We are a friendly, family-owned business and so personal attributes such as flexibility and a willingness to assist wherever required are valued as much as experience.
The position has the following responsibilities:
· - Management of stock levels and turnover
· - Order placement and follow up
· - Supplier relationships
· - Product cost negotiations and sale pricing for lower volume lines
· - Supply logistics including customs clearance
· - Support of sales and marketing functions
· - Identification and sourcing of new products as part of the wine and spirits buying team
The skills and experience expected are as follows:
· - Highly numerate with good understanding of pricing, costs and margins
· - Understanding of how procurement fits within the overall business structure
· - Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
· - Good communication and negotiation skills
· - Self-starting with an ability to work under pressure
· - A disciplined and focused approach with good attention to detail
· - Previous logistics experience is an advantage but not essential
· - WSET Level 2 or higher is desirable
· - Willingness to learn, share ideas and question assumptions
