Black Chalk is an exciting, award winning, boutique producer of English Sparkling wine.  Black Chalk have achieved a raft of plaudits and awards since our launch in 2018, the creation of a new winery in time for the 2020 harvest and our own 12ha of vineyards since January 2020.  The vision is to build a quality driven range of products that showcase both the passion of the people involved and what is  possible on a boutique scale here in Hampshire.

 

Reporting to the General Manager, the Tour Host will be an integral part-time role within our small team. We are expanding our Tours and Tastings schedule in 2022 as well as hosting a number of events. They will be responsible for delivering a professional, detailed and accessible tour that will be enjoyed by all of our guests, regardless of their knowledge of wine.

 

THE ROLE:

  • First and foremost the candidate will be an ambassador for Black Chalk. Knowledge of the Black Chalk story and its ethos will be as important as knowledge of traditional method sparkling wine
  • We are a modern, forward-thinking business - and we shape our tours to be accessible and interesting without becoming arduous for the guest
  • Our tours are split into two parts - a vineyard walk and a winery tour. Knowledge of both the viticultural and oenological sides of Traditional Method winemaking is essential. Some tours will also include a tutored tasting which the candidate will need to lead in an informative and accessible way
  • Confidence in speaking to large groups (20-30) is very important. Conversely, we run private tours, so being able to change the style of delivery is also vital
  • Candidates must have a grasp of basic salesmanship. Maximising selling opportunities through recommendations is a key part of the role. Confidence in cash handling and operating POS systems is also essential
  • Our Tour Hosts will be part of a small team, all focused on delivering an excellent experience for our guests 
  • It will be necessary for candidates to support the rest of the team in delivering the food and beverage side of the operation to a high standard. This will involve a ‘hands-on’ approach to the bar and shop where necessary

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • The role is part-time and will require significant weekend hours especially during peak season
  • Level 1 Food Safety - (can be attained during induction period)
  • Level 1 Health and Safety - (can be attained during induction period)
  • WSET qualifications or equivalent is desirable 
  • Previous experience as a tour guide/cellar door host is desirable 
  • Experience in a catering and hospitality at any level is preferred
  • Experience/confidence in making drinks including espresso coffee is preferred
  • Confidence and knowledge of basic kitchen operations/food preparation is important
  • Events experience would be desirable
