We grow Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Meunier and Pinot Gris across our two vineyards, working with the UK’s most talented winemakers, we are building a reputation for fine vintage wines, crafted to suit each year’s growing conditions.
Role:
The Vineyard Operative is responsible for all aspects of vineyard and estate work. The primary function of the role is to ensure that as a team, high quality fruit and commercial yields are delivered and that all estate areas are well maintained and presented. This role reports to the Vineyard Manager and is a full time role with usual working hours 08:00 – 16:30 Monday – Friday.
Duties include both mechanical and manual operations covering the broad spectrum of vineyard work on the estate. At peak times you may be required to work inside the winery/bottling facility at Madehurst.
Vineyard
- Vine maintenance duties including but not limited to; planting, pruning, tying down, frost protection, bud and shoot removal, leaf removal, green harvest, harvest
- Trellis installation and maintenance
- Vine mechanical duties; spraying pesticides/herbicides, mowing, trimming, de-leafing, under-vine cultivation. Use of hand tools such as strimmers, trimmers etc.
- Supervise and motivate external labour teams as required
- Recording vineyard data as and when required
- Carry out routine checks on equipment and machinery
- Undertake any relevant training which may be deemed necessary to ensure duties are carried out effectively
Estate
- Upkeep of hedgerows, boundaries, woodlands and fences
- Maintenance of paddock and grass areas
Required Skills:
- Strong work ethic, timekeeping, and attention to detail
- Proactive self-starter
- Experience working with tractors and machinery
- PA1, PA2 & PA3 spray certificates
- Viticulture experience desirable but not essential
- A clean driver’s license is desirable
General:
You may be required to take on extra or different tasks as required to support colleagues in other departments. At times it may be necessary to work additional hours (e.g. for harvest, spraying), or different days. Flexibility in this area is an advantage.
As with all staff, a happy, welcoming approach to all customers who visit the site is essential.
Travel to Artelium West, Madehurst, West Sussex, BN18 0NJ will be required
