We grow Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Meunier and Pinot Gris across our two vineyards, working with the UK’s most talented winemakers, we are building a reputation for fine vintage wines, crafted to suit each year’s growing conditions.
Role:
The Vineyard Manager is responsible for all aspects of vineyard management across Artelium’s two locations; Streat, East Sussex (40,000 vines) & Madehurst, West Sussex (65,000). This role includes developing & leading the successful management of the vineyards to ensure that high quality fruit and commercial yields are delivered. This role reports directly to the Directors/Partners.
Full time. Usual working hours 08:00 – 16:30 Monday – Friday
Responsibilities:
- Preparation and management of the vineyard budget
- Managing, motivating and developing the vineyard team
- Design & implement a disease control and soil health plan.
- Prepare schedule of work for in house and external labour teams.
- Work with winemakers and Directors to achieve the desired volume & quality of fruit for both still and sparkling production
- Ensure legal compliance including health & safety, pesticide application and accreditation systems (e.g. SWGB etc.)
- Overall responsibility for recording of vineyard data, yield forecasting and harvest planning
- Duties are to include mechanical and manual operations covering the broad spectrum of vineyard work on the estate. Including but not limited to planting, pruning, tying down, bud and shoot removal, leaf removal, green harvest, harvest, trellis maintenance. Mechanical duties include spraying, mowing, trimming, de-leafing, under-vine cultivation. Use of hand tools such as strimmers, trimmers etc.
Required Skills:
- Viticulture qualification (e.g. Bsc Viticulture)
- Minimum 5 years’ cool climate viticulture experience
- Strong work ethic with attention to detail
- Good computer skills
- Experience with tractors/machinery
- PA1, PA2 & PA3 certificates
- A clean driver’s license
- Forklift qualification (preferred)
General:
You may be required to take on extra or different tasks as required to support colleagues in other departments. At times it may be necessary to work additional hours (e.g. for harvest, spraying), or different days. Flexibility in this area is an advantage.

Travel to Artelium West, Madehurst, West Sussex, BN18 0NJ will be required
On occasion you will be required to participate in tastings & events both on and off site.
