Retail and Events Co-ordinator (Wine Jobs: Sales & Marketing)

Black Chalk is an exciting new boutique arrival on the English Sparkling wine scene.  With a raft of plaudits and awards since the launch in 2018, Black Chalk is about to embark upon a new phase of the adventure. This will include the creation of a new winery in time for the 2020 harvest and our own 30a vineyards from January 2020.  The vision is to build a ‘creative space’ that provides both a home for the Black Chalk brand but also provides inspiration for other brands looking to have wines made under contract.  

 

This role will work closely with the sales director to grow onsite sales and deliver a first class visitor experience.  The successful candidate will help to drive tour bookings alongside other events at the vineyards and winery. 

 

This position will be focused on promoting and delivering onsite tours and sales, but will also include aspects of local offsite sales and supporting national and export sales. The position will provide the opportunity to get involved in various aspects of work in the winery and vineyard providing exposure to the whole journey from vine to flute. A flexible working attitude will be required at key points during the growing season and harvest. 

 

The role will consist of weekend work to deliver tours, at present this will require the successful candidate to work 5 days a week Tuesday-Saturday each week. In future this may also require additional weekend work. 

 

This is a rare opportunity to be involved in an exciting project from the start and help to shape the business. The role will require hard work, focus and total commitment to quality at every stage. 

 

THE ROLE/KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Hosting and delivery of onsite tours around the winery and vineyards.
  • Maximise onsite retail potential. 
  • Onsite event planning and delivery.
  • Offsite event planning and delivery.
  • Represent Black Chalk at offsite trade and consumer events.
  • Explore local on and off trade sales. 
  • Logistics.
  • Support the sales effort nationally and internationally.  
  • Excellent record keeping relating to sales. This may include some direct invoicing. 
  • Hosting the onsite retail space.
  • Stock control.
  • Management and promotion of our online sales space. 
  • Support of marketing activities. 

 

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • WSET level 3 or higher
  • 2 years experience in a wine retail or tour role.
  • Passion for English wine and commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Detail oriented, takes initiative a.
  • Very strong organising, planning, and problem solving skills. Able to multitask and manage changing priorities while maintaining a positive attitude working both as a team and alone. 
  • Excellent (English) verbal and written communication skills. Strong computer background with proficiency in Microsoft Office/Mac.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive a car.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Experience writing business correspondence and building sales relationships.
  • Experience presenting information and responding to questions from groups of the general public. 
  • Experience with on and off-trade sales and account management is preferable.  
  • Skilled in the use of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint at an intermediate level.  
  • Knowledge of viticultural and winemaking equipment, processes and procedures in Sparkling wine production. 
  • Online sales experience. 

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Full right to work in the UK.
  • Excellent people skill.
  • Must be able to work indoors, outdoors, and in various temperature extremes
  • Ability to lift up to 12Kgs regularly.

 

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; confined spaces; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; and outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Salary based on skills and experience

25 days' annual holiday (plus public holidays)
