Wine Buyer (Direct Imports)
Overview
As a Wine Buyer (Direct Imports) at Vagabond you will be responsible for sourcing wines directly from wineries around the world, as well as UK-based distributors as appropriate, for resale across the Vagabond venues. All wines sourced must be of exceptional quality and interest for their price points to ensure out customers are only presented with the very best wines in their respective positions.
You will be responsible for contributing to overall wine buying strategy and delivering target gross margins for all wines and ensuring the wine ranges within the stores remain compelling, thoughtfully displayed and frequently refreshed. In order to deliver target gross margins you will effectively manage wine buying forecasts, freight-forwarding logistics, timely and accurate product creation in IT systems, and reporting.
You will join a team that already has one wine buyer and a winemaker, plus a part-time data and reporting assistant. The other wine buyer is primarily responsible for buying from UK-based distributors but delineations between buyers’ roles can be flexible as the needs of the business require and team dynamics support. You may be required to work closely with out winemaker on collaborations with other wineries around the world.
The right candidate will bring a depth of wine knowledge, a long-standing passion for wine, and at least two years experience in identifying and buying from non-UK wineries (including supporting logistics). You will be proactive, organised and results-oriented. And you will be more inclined to make the impossible happen rather than accept a suboptimal outcome. Ultimately, you will have the confidence and humility to become a productive member of the senior team at the UK’s leading wine bar and retailer.
Location
London, UK with occasional domestic and international travel.
