The Restaurant

The second opening from the team behind Chelsea’s The Cadogan Arms, The George is a grade II listed building in the heart of Fitzrovia, dating back to 1738. Situated over three floors, an intensive renovation has seen the ground floor pub restored to its former glory with cask ales, craft beers, seasonal cocktails and wines on tap.

In March, Upstairs @ The George will see the opening of the UK's first English sparkling wine bar, showcasing the best of British producers with an impressive list of current and library vintages, many of which are not available elsewhere. A concise list of aperitifs and digestives will be on offer in the dining room, where a regularly changing food menu focuses on seasonality, provenance and quality with simple dishes, executed to the standard of Culinary Director James Knappett of two-Michelin star Kitchen Table, who will work alongside Executive Chef, Alex Harper.

A private dining room features a large stained-glass window and statement 20 cover dining table, creating an elegant, refined space for special occasions. In the basement, a secret wine vault is available for those who wish to sample rare bottles whilst watching our chefs at work.

The Role

As Head Sommelier you will be responsible for delivering the highest levels of service and an exceptional guest experience within the restaurant and private dining rooms. You curate the wine list, liaise with suppliers and ensure an incredible choice is recommended and available to our customers, both to complement their tastes and to pair with menu choices.

The successful Head Sommelier will have:

• An engaging and personable nature;
• A passion for hospitality and delivering an exceptional guest experience;
• Prior experience as a Head Sommelier within a quality restaurant;
• WSET Level 3 or equivalent Sommelier qualification (essential);
• A professional and confident communication style with fluent English language ability;
• Proven ability to lead, inspire and motivate a team;
• An excellent knowledge of food and beverage;
• The eagerness to continually learn and develop your career within hospitality.
