Chief Operating Officer (Wine Jobs: Management & Administration)

Great opportunity for an experienced leader to be the company’s second-in-command and to oversee Borough Wines ongoing operations and procedures. This is a new role for the Company and will be key to the success of the business strategy going forward 

About us

Borough Wines started life in Borough Market in 2002 where we pioneered our wine on tap refill system. Since then, a lot of wine has flowed under the bridge, but we have continued to be at the forefront of change in the drinks industry, sought out by customers and respected by the trade. 

Always looking to innovate, we recently invested in a new bottling and kegging facility in Greenwich Peninsula with an in-house cellar tech team. This investment has allowed us to go full circle with our operations and fully embrace the circular economy ethos. By leveraging the benefits of big scale technology on a boutique scale we are able to improve all aspects of supply, covering margins, quality, service and choice. 

We’re excited to share our next step along the sustainability journey, with the launch of our own bottle deposit scheme, starting with 25 wines. All of these wines are selected from independent winemakers whose ethos we share and love and will be sold alongside our Refill range. This marks a big step towards our vision of continued waste reduction and sustainability.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the CEO in setting and driving the company’s vision, operational strategy, and hiring needs.

• Translate strategy into actionable goals for performance and growth helping to implement goal setting, performance management, and annual operating planning.

• Oversee company operations and employee productivity, building a highly inclusive culture ensuring team members thrive and organisational outcomes are met.

• Embracing and advocating an all-improving and innovative culture.

• Seeking operational efficiencies at every level.

• Ensure effective recruiting, onboarding, professional development, performance management, and retention.

• Monitor performance through KPIs.

• Maintain and build trusted relationships with key customers, clients, partners, and stakeholders.

Skills and experience

• Outstanding organizational and leadership abilities

• Excellent interpersonal and public speaking skills

• Aptitude in decision-making and problem-solving

• Understanding of business functions such as HR, Finance, marketing etc.

• Demonstrable competency in strategic planning and business development

• Evidence of working at a senior level to transform business strategy into operational goals and objectives

• Evidence of leading and developing a strong team, focussing on support and continuous improvement

• Financially aware with experience of financial/budgetary control

• Ability to drive positive change

• Physical operations/logistics knowledge & experience

• Cultural fit with the willingness to operate both at a strategic and hands-on level as required to ensure successful delivery of operational goals
