Summary Purpose

The Wine Market Analyst will use Liv-ex data to analyse trends in the global wine market. The role holder should be intellectually curious and able to turn research findings, Liv-ex data and industry knowledge into commercial insights our members can act upon. 

Responsibilities

  • Update charts showing trade on Liv-ex that the Exchange and Sales Teams use each month.
  • You will work alongside the Mid-price team in the calculation of all daily/monthly/ad-hoc Liv-ex Indices – which are the global benchmarks for Fine Wine and are used by both Bloomberg and Reuters.
  • Provide data for our daily ‘Market Updates’ and weekly ‘Talking Trade’ posts, that summarise market activity on Liv-ex, and market data for our monthly ‘Market Report’; with the goal of contributing written analysis as well.
  • Handling data requests within the Insights team and developing new market leading insights.
  • Collecting release price information; tracking and analysing the change in prices.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience 

Essential 

  • A bachelors degree (Economics preferred)
  • A strong understanding of SQL/MySQL or equivalent database language
  • Strong mathematical and analytical skills
  • Excellent MS Excel knowledge with previous experience using pivot tables, formulas, index matches (VBA knowledge a plus)
  • A strong data background with the ability to work independently
  • Strong written English
  • Detail orientated with an emphasis on creating and examining processes

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the fine wine market
  • Power BI – creation and maintenance
  • Familiarity with:
  • Hubspot 
  • Wordpress 
  • Qlikview/Qliksense
