Reporting to: Collette O’Leary (Winemaker, Henners) and Eric Monnin (Head of Winemaking)
Location: Henners Vineyard, Herstmonceux, Sussex

Henners Vineyard is looking for a permanent vineyard and winery assistant to join our team. Henners produces traditional method sparkling wines and a growing range of still wines. We work with our own grapes and source fruit from partner vineyards and after recent investment in the winery we have exciting plans for future expansion and growth. We are a small, passionate and very hardworking team looking for an enthusiastic, committed and friendly person to join us and get involved in all aspects of operations.
Key responsibilities
In the vineyard
- Viticultural work including pruning, summer canopy management, harvesting and data collection
-Vineyard repairs such as trellis work, wires and posts
-Tractor operations, mowing, mulching, trimming and spraying etc
In the winery
- Assisting the winemaker with operations at harvest including grape receival and processing, transfers and rackings, Inoculations, enrichments and other additions
- Filtration, cold stabilisation
- Blending and bottling
- Perform cleaning and sanitising duties
Please note that this is a very hands-on position, can be physically demanding and you need to be ready to work both outdoors and indoors and be flexible and happy to work in both the vineyard and winery.
Requirements
- Prior experience in both a vineyard and winery
- Willing to work the necessary (and sometimes long) hours over the peak harvest period
- Be hard working and committed to the job
- Over 18 years-old
- Be fit and able to lift 25 kg
- All applicants must be eligible to work in the UK
- Fluent in English
- Good literacy and numeracy skills with an eye for detail
The successful candidate will work very closely with the Winemaker and Vineyard Manager in all aspects of vineyard and winery operations. Tractor driving experience and/or forklift experience would be desirable, but not essential as training will be provided.
