Chivas Brothers Production Team, based in Glen Keith Technical Centre, is seeking a Lab Analyst to join their team. The role is to undertake core analytical processes within the Distillery laboratories, including analyses of raw materials, in-process production materials and new make spirit. Provide a comprehensive analytical and reporting service to malt distillery operations

In your role as Lab Analyst you will: 

  • Liaise with Production Technical laboratory colleagues to effectively plan and prioritise own laboratory workload to ensure that all analytical activities are performed and reported as efficiently and effectively as possible.
  • Analyse designated samples using verified analytical method, and where appropriate ensure compliance with UKAS accreditation to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard.
  • Evaluate analytical data to establish trends, correlations, etc., and provide detailed management information reports and recommendations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement projects taking them through to implementation.
  • Develop and verify new analytical methods, and evaluate the quality of existing methods.
  • Support other areas of the business by providing calibration of their equipment and implement / maintain appropriate ring check schemes.
  • Ensure day to day maintenance of analytical equipment, including routine method calibration checks to ensure compliance with Chivas standards including where appropriate with UKAS accreditation to the ISO/IEC 17025 standard. Notify appropriate management when equipment requires maintenance by an external approved service company.
  • Operate the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to effectively maintain accurate and timely laboratory information reports.
  • Good level of computer literacy including LIMS, Microsoft Office and appropriate databases e.g. SPIRIT1, SHEE, QPulse, CASK, T&A, E1 (list not exclusive).
  • Undertake all laboratory analytical activities in a manner consistent with the Company's QSHE policy and procedures, and the Production Technical laboratory integrated management systems.
  • Take responsibility for self-development. 
Our ideal candidate will have: 
  • A minimum HNC in an appropriate scientific discipline with at least two years practical experience, or alternatively, at least three years practical experience within a distilling/brewing/malting laboratory environment.
  • Awareness of the requirements of internal and external customers.
  • Good knowledge of the distillation process and production routines.
  • Ability and willingness to quickly obtain good knowledge of the Company's QSHE policies and procedures, and the Production
  • Technical laboratories and production management systems.
  • Planning and organising skills.
  • Problem solving abilities.
  • Good interpersonal, team participation and facilitation skills.
  • Current, valid driving licence.
  • The role requires a highly motivated, ‘can-do’ attitude. You should be proactive and capable of working on your own initiative.
