We are looking for a reliable, pro-active individual to be a key member of our business taking on the role of Assistant Vineyard Manager. You should have a professional attitude and possess the necessary interest, drive and resilience needed to meet the challenges that vineyard management brings.  A willingness to take on responsibility and develop the role is essential. This is a part-time appointment. 

 

Job description

 

Responsible to: Kristina Studzinski, Co-owner, Vineyard Manager and Wine Maker Off the Line Vineyard

 

Job Purpose: To successfully assist with the management of Off The Line Vineyard (currently 3 Ha under vine) and ensure optimum yields and quality of fruit

 

Main duties

 

  1. Ensuring that the vineyard is managed efficiently and safely in accordance with best practice and laws relating to health and safety including day-to-day working wearing appropriate PPE and following safe practices.
  2. As agreed by the Vineyard Manager, implementing and carrying out a vine spraying programme suitable to the climatic conditions and to conditions prevalent in the vineyard.
  3. Responsibility for weed control, herbicide operations and mowing.
  4. Assisting with the supervision of contract labour and volunteers as required.
  5. Responsibility for summer canopy management operations including tucking in, vine trimming and leaf stripping.
  6. Assisting with disease monitoring, yield forecasting and ripeness monitoring.
  7. Supervising and taking part in harvest operations.
  8. Maintaining the trellising in good condition and carrying out necessary repairs.
  9. Assisting with winter pruning operations.
  10. Ensuring that all vineyard machinery and equipment stays in good order and assisting with maintenance.
  11. Assisting with the keeping of records both to ensure compliance with legal obligations and best practice in vineyard management.
  12. Attending regular meetings with the Vineyard Manager to report on and review operations.
  13. Assisting with wine sales, tours and the promotion of the business as reasonably required.

  

Qualifications, aptitude and experience

 

You should have a minimum of I year’s previous experience of working on or managing a vineyard of 3 Ha or more. This should include experience and competence of tractor driving and tractor operations. Experience of vineyard establishment highly desirable.

 

Vineyard work is physically quite demanding so you should be physically able, for example, you should be comfortable working in all weathers and able to lift crates of grapes weighing 15 kg.

 

Experience of supervising contract labour is desirable but not essential. If you don’t have experience of this you should be confident and good with people.

 

Clean Driving Licence

 

PA1, PA2 and PA3.

 

Ability to work on your own and as part of a small team. Being positive and having a good attitude is essential.

 

Familiarity with Excel and diligent with record keeping.

 

Salary negotiable dependent upon experience
