Position Overview

The Assistant Winemaker works under the supervision of the Associate Winemaker throughout the winemaking process.  This role will require the supervision of junior members of the production team and any temporary workers within the winery.

Essential Job Functions

• Ability to supervise & lead by example across all stages of winemaking in the winery as directed.
• Delegation of work to, and supervision of, the junior production team members and temporary staff.
• Implementing the training / mentoring of the junior members of the production team and temporary staff.
• Supporting the Associate Winemaker in stock control and procurement of winemaking additions
• Competent in the maintenance and repair of equipment used in the winemaking process and able to perform basic trouble shooting on all the production lines.
• Competence in updating relevant winemaking records.
• Responsibility for maintaining the laboratory to the agreed standards at all times and the enforcement of these standards on other users of the lab.
• Commitment to maintaining and continually improving quality in all aspect of the winemaking.
• Management, evaluation and updating the product specification.
• Understands, follows and enforces winery standard operating procedures.
• Understands, follows and enforces all technical and regulatory requirements in production including SALSA, customer driven technical requirements, HACCP, Health & Safety (inc fire safety) and current winemaking regulations. 
• Supporting the Associate Winemaker in the management of the cleanliness and hygiene of the production areas and all equipment.

Non-Essential Job Functions

• Loading & unloading full riddling crates from machines, setting & starting riddling programs as and when required
• Supervising the operation of the disgorging line (incl. set-up and clean-down of the line).
• Compliance with company goods in procedures and actively managing when directed
• Attending and representing Ridgeview at trade and consumer events.
• Leading tours and tastings at Ridgeview.

 Requirements 

• Degree in Wine Production FDsc completed
• At least 6 months relevant practical experience in a winery.
• Counter Balance Forklift licence required (or training provided)
• Self-motivated and a team player who leads by example
• IT skills including Microsoft Office.
