The Somerset Wine Company is a small but dynamic independent wine merchant with a growing wholesale business. Our retail shop is located in the pretty South Somerset town of Castle Cary where we have a prominent location in the historic centre, adjacent to the medieval Market House building. Our retail space neighbours are Pinsents Deli, bringing together in one area high quality local and artisan food and drink for both take away and consuming within. We run a Wine Bar in Spring/Summer Thurs-Sat evenings and host regular customer events/tastings.

Exceptional personal customer service combined with knowledge and passion for our wine/spirits products is key to this role.

We are seeking a presentable, friendly, energetic and enthusiastic Retail Manager for 3-4 days work a week - potentially moving to Full Time 5 days a week. WSET Award Level 3 or above preferred. This is a front-line sales consultancy role selling wine to customers with knowledge, passion and confidence and offering food and wine pairing advice when required. The business owner is often on-site or working from home and offers constant collaboration and support.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Managing day-to-day stock levels in the shop and weekly orders to suppliers
  • Uploading new products to our e-commerce website and keeping pricing accurate
  • Liaising with trade customers for weekly orders
  • Picking and invoicing wholesale orders
  • Maintaining stock spreadsheets and POS reports
  • Promoting and helping to organise WSET courses through the shop, liaising with our WSET Educator and Coordinator
  • Promoting and helping to run shop events and Tastings 
  • Managing our small evening Wine Bar Thursday-Saturday could also be part of the hours or worked additionally.
