As one of Scotland’s finest and most iconic 5-star hotels and country estates, we are currently seeking a thoughtful, confident and knowledgeable Sommelier to join our Food and Beverage team.

In a room with more than a touch of theatrical magic, the Strathearn is a 250 cover, classical Franco-Scottish fine dining restaurant with a real sense of romance. Expect theatre from the traditional gueridon service, heat from the flambe, rhythm from the music, and exceptional dishes created from Scotland’s finest produce.  The Strathearn puts golden age glamour back on the menu.

Location; Auchterarder, just off the A9. Gleneagles is also within easy reach of a number of Scottish towns and cities: Edinburgh City Centre (1hr), Glasgow or Dundee (50mins), Stirling and Perth (25mins).
 
Access: Public transport is readily available from Perth. We’ve also introduced a new private bus service from Stirling, The Hillfoots (Alva, Menstrie, Alloa, Sauchie and Tillicoutry), Dunblane, Bridge of Allan, Comrie and Crieff, ensuring you can make it here, and safely home, come rain, wind or snow!
 

Here's a bit more detail on what we see you doing in this role:

  • Sharing your genuine passion for Wines and Beverages with our guests, you’ll have the enthusiasm to keep building upon that knowledge
  • Advising and presenting each guest on selecting the perfect wine to pair with their chosen meal
  • Ensuring wines are served at the correct temperature and in the appropriate glassware
  • Passionately sharing your knowledge with others through a strong coaching style to further improve the skills of your team around you
  • Sharing your excellent knowledge of the wider estate and the facilities available to our guests
  • Taking a keen interest in the operation and develop suggestions as to ways of increasing quality of service
  • Proficiently up selling and encouraging other team members to do the same at every opportunity
  • Delivering a warm and memorable dining experience for all our guests
  • Maintaining the highest standards of service, room preparation and presentation throughout the restaurant
  • Playing a significant part in making sure both the lunch and dinner operation runs without a hitch, and our service is smooth
  • Attending to customer queries and enquiries in a caring and helpful manner and with a commitment to dealing with their issues in a positive way
  • Interacting with our guests, always warm, professional, helpful and doing everything you can to exceed their expectations; playing your part in making their stay 5 star in every way

The kind of person we're looking for:

  • Experience of 5* luxury, fine dining wine service would be ideal, however having a great attitude and strong restaurant knowledge is essential
  • Curious and proactive, you stay on top of international wine trends and you’re determined to build a phenomenal reputation for yourself and Gleneagles within the wine community
  • Your perspective and approach are always fresh; no matter how many times an issue has been presented to you, to your guest it’s the first time
  • You have a keen eye for detail, an organised approach and willingness to exceed guest expectation
  • You want to be the best and work with the best – learning from the experts in our team and sharing your knowledge with us
  • You have a high level of resilience and the ability to deal with fast-paced environments is essential
  • Highly motivated and possessing an immense sense of pride in your work; you're passionate about delivering the high standards for our guests in line with the Gleneagles brand
  • You have a positive “can do” attitude to solving problems in a professional and courteous manner

  • On target earning potential for this role is £26972 / year, compromising of £22,308 annual salary and £4,660 gratuities, based on historic tronc data
