The Conviviality Insight team provide a single coherent perspective on the UK’s drinkers and their behaviour. Our insight is used to support our franchisees, our customers, our suppliers, our colleagues in planning for the future. Most importantly, it is used to shape how our business develops and innovates.
The Insight Manager is responsible for leading a customer-driven, agile team that consistently produces industry-leading work to translate Conviviality’s commitment to insight into reality. This requires engagement with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure our view of consumers and the market is as precise as possible, to manage the workload of three insight analysts and to maximise the impact of insight across Conviviality.
Core accountabilities
- Maintenance, update and development of third party and proprietary data sources with analyst support.
- Proactively lead the development of new proprietary sources and evaluation of external providers
- Manage day to day team budget, balancing need for data granularity versus expected commercial value
- Proactive analysis of these data sources to identify key market and consumer trends, understand how these are shaping the commercial environment and make recommendations on how Conviviality should respond.
- Produce specified internal reporting robustly and to deadline, synthesising multiple data sources to create actionable insight
- Seek, receive and shape briefs for insight projects, prioritise these according to commercial objectives and manage team workload accordingly.
- Work with sales, marketing, buying and other teams to build creative, powerful & strategic arguments that have clear commercial value in support of category reviews, tender submissions, etc.
- Build and maintain networks both internally and externally to keep abreast of developments within insight and translate these into relevant applications within Conviviality
- Develop and deliver an annual insight plan to support Conviviality’s overall aspirations and complete monthly reporting on budgets and activity
- Lead, inspire and develop a high performing team of three analysts
- As a key subject matter expert (both internally and externally) inspire, support and train analysts to develop their understanding and manipulation of data, ability to create solutions to briefs, and other key skill development
- Review projects with analysts for robustness, accuracy & commercial impact prior to completion, with the input of the Head of Insight & Innovation on more complex/commercially significant projects as required
- Present & communicate insight & commercial argument to stakeholders in a compelling, accurate and impactful manner.
- Become a recognised leader of insight provision and an informed, approachable and valued colleague to others.
REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL:
- Expert in understanding disparate pieces of data and drawing connections between them to build data-backed, commercially relevant argument
- Extensive experience working with continuous market/panel data (e.g. Nielsen), loyalty data (e.g. dunnhumby), and consumer data (quantitative and qualitative)
- Considerable experience presenting conclusions to senior stakeholders in a compelling and effective manner
- Skilled at balancing competing priorities in an insight (or similar) team
- Strong commercial awareness and knowledge of FMCG dynamics
- Good knowledge of perspectives for understanding consumer behaviour and some experience both conducting and commissioning primary research
- Some experience reviewing and providing feedback on analysis in a structured and rigorous manner
PREFERRED:
- Experience of the drinks industry and/or a strong understanding of beer/wine/spirits (e.g. equivalent to WSET L2/3 for wine though qualification not necessary) is strongly preferred
- Experience conducting primary quantitative and qualitative research
- Experience working with Microsoft Power BI and/or Microsoft Access
- Experience leading a successful team and supporting skill development
- Educated to degree level (preferably in a discipline with a quantitative element)
Technical, behavioural and personal competencies
- Advanced understanding of the value/limitations of varied qualitative and quantitative datasets and their applications
- Advanced quantitative/statistical analysis skills (Excel essential, other programs desired)
- Some experience in qualitative research/analysis
- Effective communicator, in explaining work, teaching skills and delivering feedback to analysts and in explaining tools, designing brief and presenting findings to colleagues, customers and suppliers
- Able to prioritise and balance and fast moving workload with a strong focus on broader commercial landscape
- Takes initiative, has new ideas and can deliver innovation and evolution with compromising on attention to detail, robustness or impact of existing workload
