Founded as a stall on London’s famous Borough Market in 2002, Borough Wines & Beers is now an award-winning independent wine, beer and spirits merchant, with eight shops in London and the South East, a growing online shop and a successful wholesale arm.

An opportunity has arisen to join the Borough Wines & Beers team at an exciting time of expansion, in a diverse role that incorporates retail, customer service and communications.

The successful candidate will spend half of their time dealing directly with customers in the shop and the remaining time in a desk-based role in the Head Office. Here they will be responsible for dealing with customer service enquiries on the phone, writing and maintaining tasting notes and working with the Communications Manager to maintain and update the Borough Wines & Beers website.

We’re looking for someone with excellent wine, beer and spirits knowledge, exemplary customer service, great copy-writing skills and a keen eye for detail.

This is a great opportunity for someone currently in a wine retail position, looking to move into a more varied role.

Responsibilities:

·         Dealing with phone enquiries – resolving issues, advising customers and fulfilling orders

·         Collating and checking existing wine information and tasting notes

·         Sub-editing product information ready for publication on the website

·         Adding products to the online shop

·         Working closely with the warehouse team to keep the online shop product list up to date

·         Compiling and sending a weekly stock update Memo to shop staff

·         Uploading existing content to the website using a Content Management System

·         Working with the Communications Manager and Buyer to maintain the Master Wine List

·         Working with the Communications Manager to arrange new product photography and to ensure wine information is kept up to date

·         Working with the Communications Manager to create and update in store POS, shelf labelling etc.

·         Serving and advising customers on beers, wines and spirits in the Stoke Newington shop

·         Occasional cover for retail staff in other Borough Wines shops

Essential:

·         An avid interest in wines, beers and spirits

·         WSET Level 2 or higher

·         Excellent written and oral communication skills

·         Excellent copy-writing skills

·         A good eye for detail

·         Experience providing excellent customer service in a wine retail environment

·         A good phone manner

·         Good numeracy skills

·         Good IT skills

·         Good time management skills

Desired:

·         WSET Level 3

·         Experience using Content Management Systems

·         Experience using online retail software (in particular Big Commerce)

·         Experience using WordPress

 

·         Experience advising customers on wine for event orders
