CELLAR HAND POSITION
Simpsons’ Wine Estate creates award-winning, estate-grown, English wines, which reflect the exquisite characteristics of their iconic, chalk terroir in the North Downs of Kent. The Estate is currently recruiting for a permanent cellar hand to join our team.
About the role:
General harvest responsibilities:
Grape sampling & basic lab analyses
Grape receival
Weighing bins
Loading, emptying, and cleaning of press
Inoculations, chaptalisation, racking, transfers and other additions to be made to tanks
Assist with general cleaning of the winery
Cellar work including but not limited to wine transfers and barrel work
Maintain winery hygiene, presentability, and neatness
Assist with filtration
General lab work (using the Foss and Sentia device)
Tirage and disgorgement work
Culture preparation
Tirage bottling
Disgorgement dosage and testing
Assist with labelling when needed
Oenological products management
Take stock and update on winery software
Work closely with and report to the Winemakers
About you:
Show an interest in wine
Previous cellar experience
Strong work ethic and attention to detail
Proactive and use logical thinking before starting a task
Strong team-working ethos and ability to adapt quickly to new tasks
A reasonable level of fitness/strength
Excellent communication skills
Forklift license preferred
Understand that long shifts may be required during harvest and bottling including some weekend work
The right to legally work in the UK.
Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
