Hours of work: 37.5 hours per week 8.30 – 4.45pm

Overall job purpose

To manage the purchasing of all non-printed packaging to agreed parameters. To assist in the escalation of any packaging quality issues and to be a point of escalation within the department to help resolve day to day issues.

Principle accountabilities
  • To manage the ordering of all non printed packaging to agreed volumes and pricing, whilst managing stock holding levels on site.
  • Hold regular reviews with key packaging suppliers to monitor performance in conjunction with the packaging technologist
  • Attend both internal and external customer meetings when required to discuss requirements/ contribution from a materials perspective.
  • Attend new product introduction meeting and any other project based meetings when appropriate.
  • Chair the weekly packaging review meeting to ensure that any packaging quality issues are addressed by the appropriate department in a timely fashion, and to liaise with the planning department for the planning of any trials into the business.
  • When the planning and materials manager and the logistics manager are not available, be a point of escalation in the department to help resolve day to day issues
  • Any other duties as required.
Education/skill:
  •  Graduate calibre
  • Intermediate excel skills including pivot tables, v look ups
  • Experience of using an erp system
  • Packaging buying experience
  • Management/ team leading experience
Additional training:
  • Company induction programme (up to 1 month)
  • Additional computer systems training (job specific) (8 weeks)
Responsibility for equipment/plant:
  • Company mobile phone
  • Company laptop
Responsibility for product/ customer service/ business support:
  • Ensuring that all materials are available to support the plan and quick resolution of any quality issues are key to optimisation of service level and the manufacturing of a product that is fit for sale
Responsibility for people:
  • Dotted line responsibility for production planner, product change co-ordinator and contract packing co-ordinator
Responsibility for information/finance:
  • This role is expected to be discreet and circumspect in their use of sensitive cost/contribution/profit information.
  • Confidentiality is very important because the implications of revealing information that is commercially sensitive could be far reaching e.g. Loss of business.
Problem solving:
  • Working in the logistics environment the individual should aim to be solutions driven and treat problem solving as an essential part of role.
  • There is a degree of flexibility, ingenuity and lateral thinking allowed, to propose solutions to be discussed with the logistics manager
Working environment:

The role will be based in the logistics office, which overlooks the production hall – so there is a degree of background noise.

  • Timely, accurate and effective communication of information is vital both internally to relevant support functions and externally to key contacts with suppliers.
  • The impact of missing deadlines or providing erroneous information can have significant commercial implications, so accuracy of information and attention to detail are important in this role.
Mental/physical effort:
  • This role will involve having customer/supplier interface and you need to be able to think/react quickly to situations.
  • Problem solving is a key part of the role.
  • Ability to meet deadlines/ work under pressure will be a key skill.
Other relevant comments:
  • In this role you need to be smart in personal appearance to present a professional image of the company at all times.
  • A good command of grammar is also vital as a part of effective communication skills.
